About Carson

Carson, ND is the county seat of Grant County in southwestern North Dakota. The city was established in 1910 following the extension of the Northern Pacific Railway into the area. According to local historical records, the name “Carson” was derived from the surnames of two early settlers, Frank Carter and Simon Pederson.

Since its founding, Carson has served as a center for local government, agriculture, and commerce within Grant County. The community’s history reflects the development of western North Dakota and the generations of residents who have contributed to the area’s growth and stability.
